January Begins

January is off to a racing start, but I miss Christmas.

I'm a big fan of eating junk food and lying around in my pyjamas all day. I like doing nothing, unless it's essential. I am a very lazy person. I even managed to fit in a nice little power nap this afternoon while my little boy slept. I'm not proud of being so lazy, but I'm happiest at home. It's time, though, for it to come to an end. I'll have to fit in my binge-watch of The Rookie around my day-to-day routine.

Finding Time

Finding time to write is always difficult. I'm busy most of the time with a 2-year-old, a dog, and a day job. I can plot and plan on the commute and in the shower, but getting those thoughts onto paper or into a document is a little harder. I grab time while my son naps or after he goes to bed, but those are tiny windows of time. That's okay, though. I have a couple of other little tricks.
  • Carry a notebook everywhere.
  • Create social media posts for teasers during work breaks
  • Plot as I try to sleep
  • Track deadlines and goals
  • Edit later

Routine

I think the best way to deal with a lack of time is to stick to a routine, which means I need to build one and find my way into it. It's a little tricky when my day job involves shifts, but a routine works well for me because I'm not a fan of the unknown or change. I quite like to be stuck in a rut.

Just Write

The biggest hack I have for finding time to write is the hardest one. It's to actually write. When there are so many chores to do and so many other responsibilities, procrastination is easy, and I'm really good at it. However, if I want to increase that word count, then I need to write.

Speaking of which, I've got a werewolf story to work on, so I'd better get back to it. If you enjoyed reading this post, then take a look at some others or take a look at my website.
