Reading Slump

I hate when this happens. I don't know what I want to read. What fiction am I in the mood for? What genre? I'm having trouble deciding, and it's creating a reading slump. I keep starting and stopping. So many authors, so little reading time.

Romance or Thriller?

Or horror or literary? Help. What do I want to read? One thing I'm not having a problem with is watching TV, and as fun as it is to binge-watch Criminal Minds for the second time, I also need to get my brain on reading. Something other than my own book, which is currently going through another edit. I need more than the words I've written.

How Do You Break a Slump?

I've got a couple of ideas on what I can do to break the reading slump that I'm trudging through, but I'm not sure they'll work. Still, worth a try.

Method 1: Short books

It might be time to break out my Mills and Boon collection. They're neat little reads, all with HEA, which is essential to me when reading romance. And hey, you can never go wrong with a Betty Neels. A little afternoon tea, trips to Amsterdam and rich Dutch doctors. Sign me up.

Method 2: Favourite Rereads

I've got a lot of favourite authors. The previously mentioned Betty Neels is one. Others include Kresley Cole, JR Ward, Gena Showalter, Kelley Armstrong, LJ Smith, Deric Longden and a whole load of others.

The slump-breaker, though, my absolute favourite, is Nalini Singh, and her romance books are the ones who have gotten me through many milestones. I read them for the first time when I was going through chemo and I had trouble sleeping. My most recent Nalini Singh reread was when I was pregnant and I knew it would be a while before I could binge-read again. Her books have never let me down.

Method 3: Library Time

It might be time to take a walk to my local library and peruse the shelves. I haven't taken my little boy yet, and I think it's time to introduce him to the magic of shelves and shelves full of books. I do love the library.

Built to Read

I'm not a person who is meant to go so long without reading. Even when it's rereads, I've always got books at hand. I was designed to be a reader, so I hate when I go through a reading slump. It's not the first time I've been through a slump, and it probably won't be the last. I just want to read again.

I want to lose myself in a story. What can I read?
