Stationery Love
It’s that time of year again. The period that sends writers into a frenzy of joy. Get to the supermarkets fellow-writers, for the Back toSchool aisle is stocked and waiting to tempt us.
Stationery Addiction
We can get packs of different coloured pens, even though we
only need black. Sticky post-its, revision cards, folders, index books,
mechanical pencils, and that Holy Grail of the stationery world. The Notebook!
To be looked at, stroked, but never written in.
What we’ll do with these stationery items, we don’t know but
those heart-shaped paper clips suddenly feel vital to my writing process. And
those index notebooks – well, now every story idea can have its own section.
Don’t forget to stock up on highlighters too. For marking...
um... important stuff.
Stationery Collector
I have enough pens to keep me going for at least ten years,
but if someone is giving away a free pen, bet your ass I’m having one. And if
one is left unattended, I might need to give it a safe home.
Stationery Memories
I recall when I was six years old getting a My Little Pony
stationery set. It was an amazing plastic folder with paper and envelopes
inside, and I don’t know if this was the start of my stationery love or if the
love was there and that’s why I found it to be such a wonderful gift.
There were other stationery memories like the smell of the
pencil case I got for being so brave at the doctor, the 5p notebooks my sister
and I bought to write poems in when I was 8 years old, the colouring tubes that
came with a picture and crayons. Such fond memories.
I swear, if I could get that My Little Pony folder back I’d
never stop using it. It was the best!
Stationery for a Writer
My love of stationery only seems to have grown as I’ve
gotten older, and so has my stationery collection, but much like books, I’m
always going to want more.
So, if anyone needs me, just look for The Back to School
section. That’s where I’ll be.
